When a patient meets with his physician about a potentially life-altering medical procedure, the physician is morally and ethically obligated to inform the patient as to any and all important issues. The risks, the potential gains, the reasons for the procedure, the qualifications of those performing the procedure, his success rates - all of these things and more should be disclosed to the patient. After all, it is the patient’s well-being (and, oftentimes, their very life) that is at stake. This full disclosure enables the patient to give their informed consent to the procedure.
When it comes to teaching the gospel to potential converts, the application of this principle is even more important. For, in this situation, the patient (i.e., convert) usually believes they are placing their eternal soul on the line - not just their mortal lives. Accordingly, the subversion of this principle in this type of situation would be considered a serious breach of ethics.
Can you imagine Jesus deliberately concealing crucial information from a potential convert? Would His church deliberately do something like that?

As a Latter-day Saint, I knew I belonged to God’s true church. With that union came the blessings of revealed light and knowledge, and the authority of the Priesthood of God. I believed that the principles and doctrines I was being taught were pure and true, that the Book of Mormon was “the most correct of any book on earth,” and that Joseph Smith, our founding prophet, was one of the noblest and greatest of any men to walk on this earth.
I believed that I was in possession of the truth, and that I was definitely playing on God’s team.
Why, then, were we all taught to fear the inconsequential, uninspired and illogical attacks of the non-Mormon world?

When I was a Latter-day Saint, I attended a lot of meetings. And in those meetings, I heard a lot of testimonies. And, honestly, I can’t recall a single one that didn’t contain the phrase “I know this church is true.” If you’re a Mormon, you can’t really call it a testimony unless you’ve repeated this simple phrase.
But, as a Latter-day Saint, do you really know the Church is true?
